Virginia is a NASCLA Commercial AND Electrical accepting state. Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation (DPOR), Board for Contractors administers under Va. Code Title 54.1 Ch 11. Three-tier classification (Class A, B, C) by project value. NASCLA Commercial for Building (BLD) specialty + NASCLA Electrical for Electrical (ELE) specialty acceptance. Va. Common Interest Community Board NOT relevant. NEC currently tested cycle: NEC 2020 (Virginia adopted via VUSBC).       Virginia Class A/B/C Contractor License — Exam Prep + Application Concierge

      For Virginia Class A Contractor (Building or Electrical specialty), the exam tests:

      • NASCLA Accredited Examination for Commercial General Building Contractors OR NASCLA Electrical Industry Examination OR Virginia-specific trade exam (depending on specialty + classification) — administered by PSI Services LLC.

      VA-specific rules that catch out-of-state contractors

      • VUSBC adoption: Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code adopts NEC 2020 + IBC family + NFPA 72 — Department of Housing and Community Development administers. Localities may strengthen but cannot weaken.
      • VOSH state-plan: Virginia operates VOSH covering BOTH private-sector + state/local public-sector employees (broader than federal-OSHA in non-state-plan states).
      • § 11-4.6 Prompt Pay: Prime must pay subs within 7 days of owner payment (stricter than 10-day rule in TN/GA).
      • § 11-4.1 Anti-Indemnity: Contract provisions requiring contractor to indemnify another for that other's OWN sole negligence are void.
      • VA Class A CE requirement: 3 hours CE per biennial cycle (1 hr B&L, 2 hr trade) — Class A only; Class B/C have 1 hr CE.
